Observations from today’s readings and today’s S-WOD, Friday, 4 December 20:
Note: Here is a short video overview of Joel: https://youtu.be/zQLazbgz90c
Joel 2:28, 29 — “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit.”
The Spirit is poured out to all Christians without distinction of age, sex, occupation, social status, or race — “For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:13) All people have equal potential access to the Holy Spirit in salvation and obedience. God’s Spirit does not discriminate. Christians should have nothing to do with any distinctions related to the flesh; we should not accept them as legitimate in any way; we should only acknowledge the truth of the Spirit. “But avoid foolish controversies.” (Titus 3:9) “Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.” (2 Timothy 2:23)
- Galatians 3:27-29 — For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.
“Cross” Fit S-WOD (Spiritual Workout of the Day) – 4 December 20: Declare your identity in Christ and Christ alone. Avoid all identity politics which distract from unity in Christ.
