Observations from today’s readings and today’s S-WOD, Tuesday, 1 April 2025:

Listen to Skip Heitzig speak on Numbers 15: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kPyS1bT_DQ

Numbers 15:2 – When you come into the land you are to inhabit, which I am giving you…

God’s fulfilled promise was never in question or threatened by the faults of the people. It wasn’t “if” but “when.”

Numbers 15:22-23 – But if you sin unintentionally, and do not observe all these commandments that the LORD has spoken to Moses, all that the LORD has commanded you by Moses, from the day that the LORD gave commandment, and onward throughout your generations….

God’s word remains the standard that defines sin.

Numbers 15:29 — You shall have one law for him who does anything unintentionally, for him who is native among the people of Israel and for the stranger who sojourns among them.

God has one standard for all people.

Numbers 15:32-35 – While the people of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation. They put him in custody, because it had not been made clear what should be done to him. And the Lord said to Moses, “The man shall be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.”

This passage reflects on Numbers 15:32–35, where a man is sentenced to death for gathering sticks on the Sabbath. It highlights how we often minimize sin, seeing small acts of disobedience as insignificant, while God’s holiness demands complete obedience. The passage emphasizes that all sin—no matter how small—deserves judgment, and that even the greatest evils in the world began with seemingly small acts of rebellion. Just as one sin in Genesis 3 led to all the brokenness in the world, every sin we tolerate can lead to greater consequences.

Take sin seriously, recognizing that what seems minor can lead to greater disobedience over time. Do not justify or tolerate “small” sins, as they can grow into destructive habits. Instead, strive to flee from sin daily, seek God’s grace for obedience, and be grateful for Jesus’ sacrifice, which provides forgiveness and eternal life.

“Cross” Fit S-WOD (Spiritual Workout of the Day) – 1 April 2025: Pray that God will help you see sin the way He does and pray for a heart which desires above else to honor Him as God through wholehearted obedience.
