Observations from today’s readings and today’s S-WOD, Sunday, 21 July 2024:
Psalm 29: 1-2, 10-11 — Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!
One of the main reasons we often feel weak, overwhelmed, and defeated is because we don’t acknowledge God’s sovereignty, and perfect, love, faithfulness, and perfect provision in our circumstances. Strength comes from the realization of who God is and who we are as His children. When the LORD is your LORD, you can have complete confidence that He will work all things out in your life to provide you only what a perfectly loving, all powerful Father would give to His precious children. Who or what can get between you and your Father’s love? Nothing!
Psalm 29:4 — The voice of the LORD is powerful….
God spoke into creation all that exists solely by speaking — “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3) God’s word isn’t just true, it is powerful. What God says, He means, and what He means manifests into reality; and what God promises is fated. It takes faith to obey God, but when you walk by God’s word, you walk within His will and within His perfect providence. Your life is directly connected to the power of the Creator, the same power which created the Universe – nothing can stop it. God’s word comes with God’s promises:
- Exodus 19:5 — Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine….
- Exodus 23:22 — But if you carefully obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.
- Deuteronomy 11:26-28 — See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD your God….
- Deuteronomy 28:1, 2 — And if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God.
- Deuteronomy 30:16 — If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you today, by loving the LORD your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.
- Isaiah 1:19 — If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;
- Joshua 1:8 — This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
- 1 John 3:22 — …and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.
- John 3:36 — Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
- 1 John 5:2 — By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.
“Cross” Fit S-WOD (Spiritual Workout of the Day) – 21 July 2024: Trust and obey God, but not merely out of fear or hope for reward but out of love and for the sake of God’s glory.
